Does what and how much you eat prematurely age you?

The answer to that question is a resounding YES!!

I’m not preaching but please listen to what the experts have to say… I’m merely giving you the facts as I’ve researched them and a personal opinion based on my life experience.

Did you know that the food you eat could be prematurely ageing you? Science has made some amazing discoveries in the last decade in nutrition. We really should be taking note of what we put in our mouth because more than ever, “we are what we eat”. Do you know the impact of what you are eating? Probably not. It’s time to find out because over-indulgence of food cause the body to prematurely age.

Would you like some more free radicals with your lunch…? There is frequent mention these days about ‘free radicals’ and how they are constantly attacking the body, causing potentially serious damage.

A free radical is the name for a molecule that has an unpaired electron. They are a normal by-product of your metabolism and without them you would die. So… you see they are necessary and certainly not all bad.

To put the record straight, it’s the over-production of free radicals that causes damage to your body. We are advised by nutritional experts to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. This is because they are rich in antioxidant phytonutrients… substances that neutralize free radicals and therefore help protect your body.

One of the essential tasks of free radicals is in producing energy from the food you eat. Every time you eat, free radical activity is intense. The more food you eat, the more free radicals are formed, and the more antioxidants your body needs to neutralize them. Big meals are big trouble! And another step in the premature aging process.

Effective Antioxidants include vitamins A, C, E; minerals such as selenium, zinc, and herbs such as aloe-vera and grape seed extract to name only a few. Help with the neutralizing process.

The Reality of Carbohydrates is that they are necessary in appropriate quantities. Carbohydrates come in many different forms, pasta, rice, bread, grains, pastries, cakes, sweets, fruit, root vegetables, etc.etc.etc. They are easy to prepare, filling, tasty and cheap. Many of our meals are dominated by carbohydrates, as most of us love them. When you eat the wrong kind and way too many carbohydrates, even of the positive kind found in fruits, certain vegetables and good grains you might as well just pour white sugar down your throat.

Carbohydrates are converted by the body into glucose, which is either used immediately for energy, or stored in your fat cells. Carbohydrates make up an excessive proportion of most people’s diet. Add together a lack of exercise and excess sugars and the inevitable result is excess weight.

By reducing your overall carbohydrate intake and reducing the size of your meals, you reduce your body’s exposure to free radical activity. The smaller meals reduce your body’s exposure to free radical activity, and, the less calories that get stored as unwanted fat. A double bonus!

Big meals are too much stress on all of you. Food is in abundance – look around the supermarket shelves at the food mountains! Fill your cart, take it home and fill your kitchen cupboards – fill your plate and fill your stomach till you can barely move. How many times a week do you overeat? How many free radicals are attacking your body and accelerating the aging process? You know, you could choose to eat less and be that much healthier.

Think about your meals over the last week. Better still, keep a food diary for the next week, record each meal by drawing a plate divided up showing how much protein, carbohydrate, fat, vegetables and fruit you eat at each meal and snack. After a week you’ll be able to see for yourself how much sugar you are eating, therefore how much damage is being caused.

With fewer free radicals attacking you, your body’s organs, bones, skin, hair and nails, that means all of you, stays healthier and less prone to premature aging.

Does that describe what most people do?  Is that what you do? If so what can you do to make some changes?  I’m not suggesting a full blown weight loss program, because that’s something that only you can decide on if know you need it.  But what I am suggesting is that you make the changes that you can immediately, the easy ones.  Let me know what changes you were able to make quickly and easily. Share them, it may help one of our members to stop prematurely aging, and keep them healthier.

Remember… I always want to hear what you have to say about what I say and you read here!
